1989 - Digipak
Front PanelOn the cover of her album, she has signed her initials instead of her full name unlike many of her previous albums. She has also names the album '1989' which was the year she was born. She is known for writing songs with the theme of love and heartbreak and sometimes receives a lot of criticism for it. The album cover doesn't reveal much about her songs and what they're about but the birds flying on her jumper symbolises freedom and perspective. This relates to her album because in some songs on the album, she's escaping a toxic relationship so she's free from the pain she would have been going through by being in the relationship.
The red lipstick she is also wearing in the cover is bright and bold and she wears that colour a lot in some of her previous albums like her last one which was named, 'Red'. The colour red connotes to a fiery, dangerous sort of colour. It also links to love, passion and desire and is an emotionally intense colour. The red colour is strongly associated with relationships which is the main focus on her album.
Inside Panel 1
On the inside panel, the picture is quite like the one on the front cover as it is the same sort of lighting and it has been taken as a polaroid. You can faintly see the background of the picture she is in and it looks like she is sitting in an empty room with benches and the way she is posing, it is like she is creeping up and only her face and her shoulders/arms are shown. At the bottom of the image, she has written a line from one of her hit singles, 'I can show you incredible things'. This shows that she is saying to the audience her album is worth listening to and it's like she's luring them in. The black top she is wearing is very different to the jumper she wore on the front cover as black is more of a dark and dangerous colour so it almost represents the image she is trying to show like she has an innocent exterior but on the inside of the CD, it shows once you get to know her, she has a darker side.
Inside Panel 2
On the CD, she has no picture on there of herself but a close-up of the jumper she was wearing on the front cover. The white birds she used on the CD symbolises freedom and and the colour white connotes to innocence and purity. This picture is very different to the one's she used on her front cover and her inside panel as the cover doesn't reveal much about her music. However, the birds could reveal that her music is all about getting away from toxic relationships and instead living life unexpectedly as an independent woman. The birds on the cover look like instead of being photographed they have been drawn and some are close up and some are far away so it is very realistic.
Back Panel
The back panel only includes the track list, bonus track list, record label name, executive producers names and the barcode including a picture of her. The picture used on the back could be the rest of the picture that was used on the front so they're completing the whole image but on different sides of the album. She released two of the same albums but one had a bonus track list which was worth more than the one that didn't have the bonus track list.
Side Panel
The side panel is very minimal as it only includes the record label name, her name, the name of her album and the reference number of the CD.
Magazine Promotional Poster
This is a promotional poster for Taylor's tour instead of her album. She named her tour after her album which was '1989'. The poster is quite limited in terms of information as it only has her tour name on it and herself, not any other information like her record label name, album logo etc.
